Book Review: Front End Drupal by Emma Jane Hogbin and Konstantin Käfer
March 16, 2010
“Front End Drupal” by Emma Jane Hogbin and Konstantin Käfer is not written for the Drupal newbie.
It boasts that Drupal is the world #1 content management system. That maybe true, but every Drupal powered site that I’ve been to is extremely slow. I don’t know about you, but I need my site to load in milliseconds not minutes. Anyway, back to my review of the well written Drupal book.
As I stated in the beginning, this book is not for anyone trying to get started with Drupal. It starts off tossing the reader directly into PHP code, the code that Drupal uses.
From Ajax to jQuery, “Front End Drupal” does have a lot of useful information. I do recommend this book for the intermediate Drupal user.
Drupal #1 It can’t be true!

Pardon me? I heard someone say when they found out I was showing my blog on the front page of this site. Yes, that’s right it may be against the rules but it’s here, right on the front page.
I converted this site to Drupal for two months. A big mistake. Visitors to the site do not want to wait 10 seconds for a page to load. In this age of ‘right now,’ the pages have to load RIGHT NOW! I am returning to my roots good old valid XHTML. “What? You must be sick with the flu or high fever or something”, commented one of my friends. “Drupal is one of the highest rated content management systems going”, he continued.
I stuck to my guns, Drupal, my friend is slow, like 1999 slow. Even GoogleBot left before it crawled the 156 url’s Drupal created for my 5 page site.
I am writing a review of the heavily touted book “Front End Drupal” by Emma Jane Hogbin and Konstantin Käfer. It should be up in a day or two.
Meanwhile, please help us out! Buy a book from one of our many outlets above under the tab Bookstore. We are caught in the housing price spiral, We need your help.
Thanks!
